Four tennis players brought home awards from their last practice meet before district.

Senior Miguel Peralez and Junior Chance Leal took 1st in Boys Doubles and Freshman Chayse Leal Place 4th in Boys Singles at the Runge Tournament in Nordheim last Thursday, March 22, while Freshman Haleigh Warlick placed third in girls’ singles on Wednesday, March 21.

“The tournament was a round robin format, so all participants played everyone in their divisions,” Coach Leigh Ann Warlick said. “It was a great warm-up for the district meet.”

The Lady Badger and Badger Tennis teams head to district April 3 and 5 in Dilley.

“It was a good learning experience; this was a round robin, so our endurance was tested, and we had to put up points fast,” Chance said. “We are just excited for district coming up and want to push for a state title. We’ve been working hard for several years now, and we feel this is our year. We have high expectations and can’t wait to take it one match at a time.”

Leal and Peralez beat Schulenberg’s No. 1 team, 10-7, to advance to the finals, and then played George West in the finals and won 10-6.

Haleigh placed 3rd in Girls Singles playing in her first meet of the season after coming off an injury.

“I really didn’t know what to expect going into my first varsity meet, but I was really excited about the way it turned out,” Haleigh said. “I am grateful to be given the chance to play after being hurt. I’m looking forward to the district meet.

Chayse lost his 3rd place match to Austwell-Tivoli.
