Wilbert Alfred “Slim” Radicke, 91, of Waco, Texas, passed away Mar. 25, 2012.

Slim was born May 8, 1920 in Runge to Anton Radicke and Silvia Kerlick Radicke. He was a longtime resident of Gillett. He graduated from Karnes City High School in 1939 and later served his country from June 1940 until Sept. 1945 in the U.S. Army. He and Winnie Hazel Gary were married in 1946. Wilbert was a rancher; former Gillett postmaster; owner operator of the Red & White Grocery Store in Gillett; and he and his wife Hazel also operated the Pleasant Hill Drive Inn and Dancehall.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Kay Canada and her husband Eddie of Driftwood, Texas, and Lana Jo Radicke of San Antonio; brother, Lloyd Kerlick Radicke of Floresville; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Wilbert Gary Radicke; and brothers, Norman, Richard, and Jerry Radicke.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Mar. 29, 2012 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. Interment followed in the Gillett Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons Trey Gross, Pryse Gross, Bobby Belitz, Will Radicke, Jonathan Radicke, and grandson-in-law Josh Dawkins. Funeral services were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home where the on-line guestbook may be signed at
