Kenedy Lions beat Pettus Eagles, 13-3

Saturday the Kenedy Lions took another step towards a district championship by handing the Pettus Eagles a 13-3 loss and improving the Lions record to 7-0 in district play and 13-0 overall.

Rolie Zepeda would pitch all 5 innings for the win as he struck out 7 and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits.

The Lions would take a 6-0 lead in the first inning as Zepeda would single and reach third on the left fielders error.

Dominic Cruz and Tristan Mejia would both walk and Zepeda would score on a pass ball.

Isaac Cruz would single and drive in a run. RayJ Garza would triple to clear the bases and drive in two.

Eddie Villarreal walked and then Jeremy Rodriguez would fly to left to bring in the final run of the inning.

Pettus would score 1 in the second but the Lions would answer with 3 as Isaac Cruz, Garza, and Villarreal all would score as Rodriguez would drive in 2 and the last would score on a Pettus error.

Pettus would score another run in the third and after 3 innings the Lions led 9-2.

Pettus would score their last run in the fourth.

The Lions again would answer with 3 runs as Aaron Castillo would single, Jacob Asebedo would reach on an error, and Zepeda would single to load the bases.

Dominic Cruz would single in 1 run.

Mejia would reach on a fielder’s choice but drive in a run and a pass ball would bring in the third run of the inning to leave the score at 12-3.

In the top of the fifth Zepeda would strike out the side.

The Lions would need 1 run to put the 10 run rule into effect.

Rodriguez would single to lead off the inning and reach second on a pass ball.

Castillo would lay down the sacrifice bunt to move Rodriguez to third and on the throw the Eagles would commit the error that would allow Rodriguez to score and end the game. Zepeda would go 3 for 4, Rodriguez would go 2 for 3 and 3 rbi’s, Isaac Cruz and RayJ Garza would both go 2 for 4, Villarreal and Castillo both went 1 for 2, Dominic Cruz and Mejia would both go 1 for 3 to round out the 13 hit attack for the Lions. Next up for the Lions will be the Falls City Beavers on Wednesday the 18th. This will be parent’s night which will begin at 6:30 with game time around 7:15.
