Lady Badgers fall to Kingsville Academy in area playoff

The Lady Badgers Softball team’s season came to an end with an 8-1 loss last Thursday, May 3, at Area against Kingsville Academy.

Junior Aileen Lundquist had 1 run and pitched 1 strikeout, and Sophomore Jurnee Jaramillo chipped in 1 RBI.

“I feel like our season went very well, it was better than most people thought because we lost players, but we all stepped up and worked hard and we got better as the season progressed,” Lundquist said. “We had a lot of rough patches from the beginning but we came together and kept playing hard and when you do that you can’t end in disappointment.”

The Lady Badgers qualified for Area after winning the Bi-District championship by beating Poth in two games. In their first meeting on April 27, the Lady Badgers won 6-2 with Junior Aileen Lundquist pitching 10 strikeouts.

Sophomore Kayla Ramirez had 1 stolen base and 1 run. Junior Kalli Ferguson batted 2 runs, while Sophomore Jurnee Jaramillo added an infield homerun, 2 RBI’s, and 1 run. Senior Sarah Barkley contributed by having 1 run and 1 RBI. Junior Roxie Carrasco had 1 RBI as well as Sophomore Mariah Villareal.

In Game 2 on April 28 the Lady Badgers solidified their title with a 5-2 win against Poth.

Down the first 4th innings Poth was up by 2, scored 3 runs in the 5th inning and 2 in the 6th. Lundquist pitched 3 strikeouts, 1 run, and had 2 stolen bases. Ramirez had 1 run with 1 stolen base, while Ferguson contributed 2 runs. Jaramillo added 1 run and 1 RBI.
