It was one of 30 newspapers statewide to be recognized with a Star award from the ILPC, which is an affiliate of the University Interscholastic League and is one of the nation’s largest state high school association of student newspapers and yearbooks.
Newspapers from throughout Texas were sent to ILPC for critique and judging, ILPC Director Jeanne Acton said. The judges rated the newspaper and nominated the top papers for Stars.
The Star nominated papers went before a panel of judges. The panel decided the Stars.
“More than 40 newspapers were nominated for Stars, and from that, 32 were selected to receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Star,” Acton said. “This years’ newspaper were very impressive. The writing was outstanding. Texas clearly has some of the best scholastic journalism in the nation.”
The award was presented during the 85th annual ILPC state convention, April 28-29 at The University of Texas of Austin.
