Alfonso "Poncho" V. Puente, 76, a lifelong resident of Karnes City, Texas died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at Methodist Main Hospital in San Antonio.

Poncho was born, April 17, 1936, in Kenedy, the son of Arnulfo C. Puente and Saragosa Vasquez Puente. Poncho was retired from the City of Karnes City as a water meter reader. He was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and was active in the VFW Post 8572.

Survivors include his sisters, Maria Elizondo, Fannie Lopez and Tila Solis; and his brothers, Martin Puente and Gilbert Puente.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Guadalupe, Valentin and John Puente.

Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at 3 p.m. in Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, and a Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rick Puente, Martin Puente, Jr., Michael Solis, John Puente, Jr., Danny Puente and Donald Puente.
