The Karnes City High School powerlifting teams began practice two weeks ago to train for their season -- and Coach Bobby Perez feels confident the group will enjoy the same successes as last year.

The first powerlifting meet is Jan. 5 at San Antonio’s Kennedy High School.

“I expect out lifters to get stronger as the year progresses and compete as hard as they can,” Coach Perez said. “I think we’ll have success as long as the kids continue to work hard. If they’re getting stronger, we will have success.”

Last year, 2012 graduates Tatiana Tinoco and John Mendoza competed at State. This year, senior Lucas Janysek will be a lifter to watch, as he advanced to Regional last year.
