Senior post Khadeshia Hopkins led the Lady Badger Basketball team with 16 points as the girls defeated Stockdale 76-46 on Jan. 4.
Hopkins teamed up with sophomore post Morgan Kelley to hold Stockdale’s leading scorer to only six points on the night. But the Lady Badgers hover behind district contenders Poth, Schulenburg and Nixon-Smiley. They begin their second round of District 28-2A action next Tuesday, Jan. 15, against Poth there. JV starts at 5 p.m.
Dec. 21: KC 44-Hallettsville 31
Junior guard Kayla Ramirez paced the Lady Badgers to get in the win column against Hallettsville. Ramirez had 11 points, followed by sophomore post Morgan Kelley with 10 and senior point-guard Aileen Lundquist’s nine.
Dec. 18: KC 54-Nixon-Smiley 61
Despite senior point-guard Aileen Lundquist’s 15 points, the Lady Badgers fell to the Lady Mustangs in their third district game.
In non-district action, the Lady Badgers won third in the Sinton Rotary Tournament Dec. 28-29. In their first game, the girls defeated Gonzales 77-43, with senior post Khadeshia Hopkins contributing 17 points. Senior point-guard Aileen Lundquist chipped in 16, and junior Kayla Ramirez and sophomore post Morgan Kelley each scored 11.
The girls then faced Columbia and won 61-51, with Hopkins leading all scorers with 16. Three others hit double digits with Lundguist and senior guard Jonie Reyes each scoring 10, and Kelley had 11.
In their third tournament game, the girls lost to Aransas Pass 48-51. Kelley had 16 points. Fouls hurt the girls, as the two guards fouled out.
The girls lost a close one against IWA-Corpus Christi 52-55. The girls had to win by three points to earn a first place, but just couldn’t get it. Kelley had 24 points.
