The Lady Badger Powerlifting team won third in their debut meet Jan. 5 at San Antonio’s Kennedy High School.

The girls were paced by sophomore Savanna Segura’s 1st place in the 97-lb division. Sophomore Caley Jackson chipped in a 2nd place in the 148-lb class, while sophomore Mari Alaniz placed 3rd in the 165-lb division and senior Roxie Carrasco won 3rd in her 181-lb division. Junior Hana Ochoa got 4th in the 165-lb division, while sophomore Ashley Carrasco participated.

Eleven Badger powerlifters placed in the meet too. Sophomore Wesley Lover won 5th in the 123-lb division; in the 132-lb weight division sophomore Robert Morin took 3rd and freshman Ty Burson was 6th. Freshman Rhett Kelley placed 8th in the 147-lb class, while senior Nick Quintanilla was 7th in the 181-lb division.

In the 220-lb division, senior Weston Block came in 2nd, while his brother Austin Block followed at 4th, and junior Aaron Lopez placed 5th. Senior Nick Guzman won 4th in the 242-lb class, and in the Super Heavy Weight category, sophomore Trent Enriquez placed 2nd and senior Lucas Janysek came in 4th.

The Badgers and Lady Badgers compete this Saturday, Jan. 12, in Goliad.
