South Texas Trail Riders head to San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

The South Texas Trail Riders will kick-off the 54th Annual Trail Ride to the 64th Annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Edcot Gin in Edroy. Registration is from 2-9 p.m. with supper served at 5 p.m. This meal is donated by the Buc Days Rodeo of Corpus Christi.

Leading the way to San Antonio is Trail Boss Arlis Young, Assistant Trail Bosses Michael Dunn and Ray Garcia, Honorable Trail Boss George Camp, Wagon Boss Virgil Culpepper, Asst. Wagon Boss "P." Doty, Capt. of the Scouts Bill Siddon, Marshal Willie Moses, Deputy Marshal Robert Cavazos and all the scouts helping with the traffic.

Saturday, Feb. 2, the trail will leave Tynan and travel to the Bee County Coliseum Campgrounds. Sunday, Feb. 3, "Super Bowl Day" riders will camp in Pettus. Super Bowl Supper will be provided by the trail rides oldest member and founder Ona Van Dorn.

Monday, Feb. 4, riders will be leave Pettus to Kenedy. The trail will be traveling the back roads to Kenedy and camp at the Karnes County Show Barn, midway between Kenedy and Karnes City. Monday night is kids night. Supper will be served from 6-7:30 p.m.

Fat Tuesday, Feb. 5, the riders will leave the Karnes County Show Barn to Karnes City and will parade through downtown and have a lunch stop in Karnes City. Then back on the road to Falls City down U.S. Hwy 181. The Falls City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a big county and western dance starting at 7:30 p.m. music by Cactus County. There will be a door charge for folks who want to kick-up their heels.

Wednesday, Feb. 6, the trail says goodbye to Falls City and hello to Poth for a lunch stop and then travelling to the Wilson County Show Barn for a meal cooked by the Floresville Boy's and a big dance that night with Bobby Marques from at 8 p.m. - 12 midnight.

Thursday, Feb. 7, riders say goodbye to Floresville and get back on the road to the Bexar County Sheriff's Pose Arena. Supper will be served at 6 p.m. with the STTR Awards Ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 8, the trail riders will leave Bexar County Sheriff's Pose Arena and travel to the end of the trail camp site in San Antonio.

The South Texas Trail Riders have dedicated this ride in memory of trail riders that passed away in 2012. They are Shirley Masur, Life Member; Chris Clark, Life Member, Past Officer, Past Sweetheart; and Trail Rider George Reiter.

This year’s queen is Miss Lauren Ramos of Beeville. Lauren parents are Larry and Sherry Ramos. Sweetheart of the trail ride is Sharie Folmer of Kingsbury and Mascot is Abby Atkinson of Corpus Christi. Abby is the daughter of Alice and Jason Atkinson.

The South Texas Trail would like to thank all the law enforcement agencies for their help with the traffic problems and all the towns and communities for their support by letting us spend the night in their community and for all meal donations.

Mark the dates and come out to see the trail riders on the road. The South texas Trail is "Keeping the Cowboy Tradition Alive".
