Michael “Mike” Anthony Olmstead, 46, of Hobson died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 in San Antonio.

Mr. Olmstead was born May 5, 1966 in Ankara, Turkey. Mike retired from the US Navy, as an E5 Machinist Mate 2nd Class, after serving in the Persian Gulf War. He was a member of the Helena Catholic Men’s Club and a Catholic by faith.

Survivors include his father Frankie Vajdos of Helena; sisters, Julie (Joe)Metzger of Odem, Cindy (Pat) McCord of Pflugerville, Laurie (Randy) Kotara of Falls City, Mary Kay Duff of Karnes City, and Kristi (Jeremiah) Cooper of Elgin; brother, Scott (Lisa) Vajdos of Pearland; and eight nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his mother Clare Marie Vajdos and a sister Lou Ann Vajdos.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria.

Interment followed in the Hobson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Mendoza, Dan Gonzales, Phillip Mika, Charles Mattox, Chris Vajdos, and Tommy Mihalko. Funeral services were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, Inc. of Karnes City.
