February 28th and March 2nd the Kenedy Lions played in the Pettus baseball tournament.

On Thursday they beat Poth 11-2 with Dominic Cruz picking up the win.

In the second game of the day the Lions would defeat Goliad for the second time by the score of 16-8 with Eddie Villarreal picking up the victory.

On Saturday the Lions would face Louise in an elimination game and win 9-1 with Isaac Cruz earning the victory with Jordan Valdez closing out the last inning.

In the semi final game Rolie Zepeda would pick up the win over Runge 11-5 with Andrew Aguirre and Jeremy Rodriguez pitching the last inning of play.

In the championship game the Lions would face the Luling Eagles whose ace would shut down the Lions offense only allowing 4 hits and giving up 5 walks.

Dominic Cruz would go five innings for the Lions allowing 3 unearned runs 1 in the first and 2 in the fifth while striking out 11.

Isaac would pitch the sixth and give up 1 unearned run while striking out 2.

The Lions would commit 8 errors total in the game and you can’t do that and expect to win against quality teams.

Totals for the tournament are as follows. Rolie Zepeda went 5 for 6, Dominic Cruz went 5 for 12, Isaac Cruz went 8 for 14, JD De Los Santos went 4 for 8, Eddie Villarreal went 4 for 10, Jeremy Rodriguez went 4 for 8, RayJ Garza went 5 for 9 with our first home run in 2 years. Kris Bryan went 1 for 7, and Bryant Tiemann went 1 for 4 with his first varsity hit a double. Vicente Barrera went 0 for1, Javier Hernandez went 0 for 1, Jordan Valdez went 0 for 1, and Jacob Asebedo went 0 for 4.

In all it was a successful tournament for the Lions as many Lions got a chance to pitch and hit and play different positions in the field.

The Lions are now 8-2 on the year and start district play on March 8th in Falls City at 7:00 where they look to start defending their district championship from last year.
