Rio Medio Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas met May 21 in the Community Room of the First National Bank in Beeville. Hostesses for the meeting were Elizabeth Villines and Myrtle Bocquet. The meeting was called to order by President Ann Chambless, who then led the group in the pledges to the United States and Texas flags. The invocation was given by Chaplain Diana Braly.

Villines introduced Patrick King, executive director for the Blackland Museum in Taft as well as sub-chair for education with the San Patricio County Historical Commission. King’s passion for western history was apparent as he told stories of the founding of the Coleman Fulton Pasture Co. that led to the development of ranching, farming and agriculture in the area that is today San Patricio and Aransas counties and surrounding areas. He also discussed the wealth of historical data that is located at the Blackland Museum.

Chambless suggested that in appreciation for today’s speaker, a contribution of $25 should be made to the Blackland Museum. All agreed.

Committee reports were requested. Treasurer Bocquet reported a balance of $888.05. She announced dues for 2013-2014 are $55 and should be paid prior to Sept. 1. She then reported that during the San Jacinto Day luncheon, the group agreed to make a $25 donation to the San Jacinto Memorial. There were no other reports.

Chambless then conducted the installation of officers for 2013-2015. They are: President Jane Pugh, Vice President Mary Ellen Thoms, Secretary Charlotte Norton, Treasurer/ Registrar Myrtle Bocquet, Chaplain Ann Chambless, Historian/Parliamentarian Marie Jackson and Reporter Elizabeth Villines.

Jo Nell Robertson reported information from her attendance at the State DRT Convention, then the meeting was adjourned.

The next general meeting will be held Sept. 17.
