The graduating senior class of Runge High School traveled by Southwest Airlines to Orlando, Fla., May 13 for a fun three days to attend the theme parks at Magic Kingdom, MGM Hollywood Studios, and Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

This senior class worked hard to raise over $20,000 to make this dream come true. Much of their fund raising began while they were in the 8th grade. For many seniors, this was their first venture aboard an aircraft and their first time to travel outside of the state of Texas.

Upon landing in Orlando the group checked into their hotel and traveled for an evening of shows and rides at MGM’s Hollywood Studios theme park. The next morning the group traveled to Disney’s Magic Kingdom for the entire day. Their last day was spent at the Island’s of Adventure and experiencing the infamous Harry Potter Ride.

The class would like to thank the many people in the community for their benevolence in giving so they could attend. While the class and parents worked hard with candy sales, bake sales, and fund raising options, many kind people came forward with cash donations to make this trip possible. Senior sponsor David Purser would like to thank trip sponsors: Mrs. Nancy Cox, principal; Mrs. Sheri Molina, English teacher; Mrs. Erica Jones, administrative assistant, and Sharon Purser for all of their hard work. Mrs. Purser served as “travel agent” and stated at the end of the trip that she “fell in love with these kids and wanted to adopt each and every one of them!” Special thanks to Mrs. Janice Sykora and the Runge ISD Board of Trustees for having faith in their students and employees to allow this out of state trip.
