The TAAF Texas Games is an Olympic style tournament, which is held every year, in different cities for Texas athletes from track and field to water polo to fencing and baseball, it is all there.
The Tocallos Boxing Cub has been blessed to be able to participate in this tournament for the past four years and have done extremely well. They have won 11 gold medals and three silver medals. This year they received two gold and one silver.
Jacob Coffman, won his 4th straight gold medal by stopping Johnathan Ortiz in the 3rd round of their intermediate division, 110 lbs. “Jacob Coffman has trained really hard with long hours at the gym and with great dedication and heart” said Coach Chris Tobar.
Domingo Tobar also won a gold medal in his division as an unopposed champion with his opponent failing to make the weight. “Domingo has worked very hard and has impressed his coaches with his hard work and commitment to the sport and is on his way to becoming a great fighter like the team captain, Jacob Coffman” said Coach Domingo Tobar.
9 year old Jacob Barrientez competed in his first Texas game and lost a split decision Friday night. “Baby J (Barrientez) was a little nervous the first round of the bout, but settled down during the 2nd and 3rd round, but unfortunately, the decision went the other way, landing Jacob a sliver medal in the 2013 Texas Games”, said Coach Domingo Tobar.
Coach Tobar ended saying, “All the kids have worked really hard all summer long and have looked forward to this tournament, with Jacob Coffman leading the way, stopping boxers in his division at the age of 13 and is well on his way to becoming a national champion. We thank all our fans, our families and this city of their support.”
