Goliad Superintendent Emilio Vargas, III (far left) presents the third place trophy to representatives of the Karnes City High School Band during the USBands Marching Contest in Goliad Saturday. Representing the Badger Band are, from left, Color Guard Captain Brandy Portillo, Drum Major Trent Enriquez and Color Guard Lieutenant Brandi Rodriguez. The Contest is sponsored by USBA as one of many around the country. These contests serve mainly as preparation for UIL and similar organizations in other states . At this contest each judge focuses on a specific aspect of the show, such as individual music performance, marching execution, percussion and color guard. They then give a numeric score for their particular area. At UIL there are 3 judges who each cover everything as a whole and then give a rating of 1-5, 1 being the highest.
