Mrs. Harris was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Thrall to Alvin and Myrtle Bownds. She lived most of her life near Kenedy and retired from the Kenedy Independent School District in August 1977. Her church service was primarily in the Green Baptist Church near Kenedy, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tuleta. She enjoyed teaching, canning, sewing, gardening and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, John L. Harris; her son, John Ray (Carol) Harris; two sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara (Franklin) Atkinson of Marshall and Norma (Don) Noah of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joy Bailey.
Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy.
The funeral service was conducted there at 11 a.m. Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Gideon’s International or a charity of personal choice.
