Lady Badgers place 2nd in home tourney

The Karnes City Lady Badgers basketball team defeated George West, 54-20, in competition part of the Karnes City High School Basketball Tournament.

Kayla Ramirez led the Lady Badgers in scoring with 20 points.

The team went on to beat Jourdanton, 56-44. Ramirez led again in scoring with 27 points.

In the next round, the Lady Badgers beat Odem, 57-39. Morgan Kelley led in scoring with 20 points.

The Lady Badgers went on to win over Pleasanton, 57-24. Ramirez led in scoring with 15 points.

In the championship game, the Lady Badgers faced state-ranked San Antonio Cole who took home the 60-35 win. Ramirez led in scoring with 19 points.

“I am very proud of the effort given by every player each and every game during the tournament,” said Head Coach Burke Braun.

The Lady Badgers placed 2nd overall with 3 girls receiving All-Tournament selections.....Kayla Ramirez, Katy Gotthardt, and Morgan Kelley.

“We would like to thank everyone involved with the tournament especially the Young Progressives for helping out with the hospitality room, the booster club and all the teachers, coaches for their help,” Braun said.

The Lady Badgers began district play on Dec.10 at Poth and will play at home vs. Schulenburg on Friday Dec. 13.

Games start at 5 p.m. for JV and 6:30 for Varsity.

“Please come support these hard working Lady Badgers,” Braun said.

The Lady Badgers overall record is 14-4 so far this season.
