Kenedy Lions beat Woodsboro, 63-51

Dec. 20, the Kenedy Lions traveled to Woodsboro to take on the Eagles.

This was a tight contest from the beginning.

Woodsboro took an early lead with a 17-13 first quarter, but the Lions, led by Jacob Asebedo and Dominic Cruz, fought back to keep it a 5 point game at half, 35-30.

After regrouping at halftime, the Lions roared back in the third quarter outscoring the Eagles 21-9 in the third quarter.

Giving the Lions a lead they would never give up. The Lions stepped up on the defensive end hold the Eagle at bay.

The final score was 63-51 Lions.

Leading scorer was Dominic Cruz with 25, followed by Jacob Asebedo with 12 pts, 11 assist, 7 steals. Seferino Villarreal scored 8, Jordan Valdez 7, Andre Martinez 5, Graham Lawrence 4, Daniel Fuentes 2.

Comfort Tournament

The Lions traveled to the Hill Country to take on four very good teams.

The Lions started off against San Saba.

“It was a very physical game,” said Coach Jerry Connell.

The Lions jumped out to an early lead 14-11 after the first quarter. San Saba quickly found its stride and led the Lions 30-21 at halftime.

The Lions tried to fight back, but it was to no avail.

San Saba won the game 61-49.

Leading scorer was Dominic Cruz with 17. Andre Martinez 8, Jacob Asebedo 7, Seferino Villarreal 6, Jordan Valdez 5, Daniel Fuentes 2, Xavier Villarreal 2.

The Lions then took on Marble Falls Faith Academy.

The Lions grabbed an early lead, 18-12, that it never gave up.

The Lions, led by Dominic Cruz 19 pts and Andre Martinez 18 pts, beat Faith Academy 62-50.

Jacob Asebedo scored 8, Graham Lawrence 5, Seferino Villarreal, Jordan Valdez, Daniel Fuentes 4 pts each.

The Lions then took on Comfort. It did not take Comfort long to get control of the game.

The tournament host Comfort Bobcats won 63-40. Leading scorer was Dominic Cruz with 21. Jordan Valdez had 11, Andre Martinez and Jacob Asebedo had 2 pts each.

The Lions finished up the day with a 52-40 defeat to the Harper Longhorns.

The Leading scorer was Dominic Cruz with 14 pts, he was also named to the All Tournament Team.

Andre Martinez scored 8, Seferino Villarreal 6, Jacob Asebedo and Graham Lawrence each had 4, and Daniel Fuentes had 2 pts.
