The Kenedy Lions took on the Pettus Eagles with the district championship and first round bye on the line.
“With Falls City’s victory on Monday over Three Rivers, the pressure was on us to finish out district, and get the first round bye”, said Coach Connell.
The Lions came out focused, looking to end this one early.
With pressure and hot shooting the Lions took a commanding first quarter lead, 22-11.
The Lions kept the pressure up in the second quarter forcing the Eagles into turnovers and bad shots.
“I was really proud of our guys. We played suffocating defense, and that led to a lot of easy baskets on the offensive end,” said Coach Connell.
The offensive barrage continued in the second quarter, out scoring the Eagles 23-6.
The halftime score was 45-17 Kenedy.
The second half was more of the same for the Kenedy Lions.
“I was able to get a lot of playing time for our bench, and work on some things for the playoffs.”
With the game well in hand, the Kenedy Lions outscored the Eagles 17-6 in the third taking a 62-23 lead into the 4th quarter.
As the game ended, Kenedy was on top 73-34.
With the victory, the Kenedy Lions clinched the District and Bi-District Championship.
With the two victories over the Falls City Beavers, the Kenedy Lions clinched a first round bye.
The Kenedy Lions will now wait for the winner of the Woodsboro/Lasara game played Tuesday night at Santa Gertrudis in Kingsville.
