Thursday night, March 27 at Munoz Café in Runge, the Runge Chamber of Commerce and Community Projects celebrated their 1st Annual Recognition Dinner. The theme of the dinner was “New Beginnings”. The event was well attended and well received.

The chamber recognized the work that was done in 2013-2014 including the Independence Day Celebration; sending Vice President Jon Waller to the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive Chamber Basics Training; receiving our 501c3 designation for our community projects; Football Tourism Program bringing tourist to Runge and funding to two student groups; Christmas in the Park; Karnes County Toys for Tots Donation; Community wide training for 501c3 non-profits from Austin; and hosting our first Annual Appreciation Dinner.

We also recognized all the many volunteers and sponsors who helped us reach these goals. Volunteers and sponsors recognized were Jay Streeter, Chairman of the Independence Day Celebration; Alex Caballero with Karnes County Veterans Services; the Runge Fellowship of Churches that include Runge Church of Christ, First Baptist Church of Runge, Runge United Methodist Church, Jerusalem Baptist Church and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church; along with the City of Runge for their work on the Christmas in the Park program.

Rami Flores, a senior at Runge High School and daughter of Diane and Daniel Flores, was recognized as Miss Runge, for her involvement with the Miss Karnes County Pageant, and will be representing Runge on our parade float and will be encouraging surrounding cities to attend our Independence Day Festivities in July.

Elections for 2014-2015 will be held on Tuesday, April 1 at the Runge Vet Clinic at 7 p.m. and we will be saying goodbye to 2013-2014 officers. Special thanks to President Craig Funke, Vice President Jon Waller, Co-Secretaries Gloria Brewer and Hilda Schryver and Treasurer Brenda Hansler.

April’s 2nd Friday Breakfast will be held in Runge next week at the Runge Museum on 81 just north of Picos. For more information on what is happening in Runge, please contact the Runge Chamber at 830-200-8927.
