In the night-cap game at 8pm, the major league boys’ Kenedy Maroon hosted the Runge Cardinals for another exciting contest between two very skilled and well coached teams. The score remained tied 6-6 from the 3rd to the 5th inning when a bases loaded walk gave Maroon the go-ahead run and the 10 pm rule halted play automatically. No play allowed after ten pm, no inning shall begin if the game will surpass the 10 pm deadline.
On Thursday, May 8th, the Karnes City Lady Badgers LL Jr girls played host not only to the Falls City Lady Beavers, but to a few delays as well. Game time was 6:30 p.m., and was played at the KCHS softball field, but Chief Umpire Jamie Brown suspended play due to lightning and light rain for about 20 minutes. The starting pitcher for KC, Terra Coronado, had control problems with the dampness but soon recovered. Falls City ace, Kelsey Moczygemba, wasn’t as lucky. With both teams’ base coaches assisting with game-ball towel drying, she walked batters back to back, even though she was pitched strong throughout the whole game.
The bottom of the 3rd inning actually hit bottom when Riley Allen injured her right knee attempting to slide into Home Plate. First Aid wasn’t helpful as she had to be rushed to the ER at OKMH for an exam, luckily revealing nothing broken, torn, or otherwise too serious an injury. We pray for her recovery.
The very next inning, a complete blackout occurred on the field lasting nearly 20 minutes, as the power grid had to be remotely reset. When play resumed, KC Lady Badgers went on to win it 22 - 7, in a romp that lasted
over 3 and a half hours, and completing only 5 innings.
