The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats scored early and often against the home-standing Kingsville Academy Pride on Friday night. The final was all Bobcats, 73-0.

“Friday night’s victory vs. Kingsville Academy was a good ending to a good regular season. We felt like we played a solid four quarters of football with an outstanding defensive game, holding Kingsville to under 100 yards of total offense and scoring four defensive touchdowns,” said head coach Dan Garza.

The Bobcats scored four times in the first period. That jumped to 49-0 by halftime. The Bobcats put up another 24 points in the second half to make the final a 73-0 runaway victory that gave the ‘Cats a 6-4 overall record and a 4-2 district mark.

The leading rushers for the Bobcats were Jeremy Byrd with 110 yards on 10 carries with a 67-yard scoring jaunt among the 10 attempts. Sonny Hernandez also had a great night with 106 yards on just six carries with three touchdowns.

The defense also had its highlights as both Derek Boggess and Gavin Vandever returned interceptions for scores for the Bobcats. J.D. Zamora picked up a loose ball and scampered 60 yards for another touchdown for the ‘Cat defense.

Vandever also kicked a 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

“We will have to play this kind of football vs. East Bernard, our first playoff opponent. They come in with the exact 6-4/5-2 win loss record as we have, and have played some tough opponents throughout their regular season play,” Garza said.

“We look forward and expect a tough playoff battle on Friday. I know that our team is up for the challenge.”

The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Edna.
