Beeville police are looking for a man who tried to snatch a money bag from an employee of a local tavern last Friday night.

Police Chief Joe Treviño said someone approached a female employee at BOBWE’s, 1308 S. St. Mary’s St., at 10:26 p.m. as she was getting into her vehicle.

The man, described as Hispanic, between the ages of 30 and 40 and wearing a Dallas Cowboys cap and a dark-colored, plaid sweater, ran up to the woman, grabbed the money bag in her hand and tried to run away with it.

The woman resisted, though, and managed to wrestle the bag out of his hands.

At that point, the man ran from the scene, going east in the 100 block of East Rachel Street.

Treviño said someone driving by in a red pickup truck noticed the attack and stopped. The driver sounded his horn in an apparently attempt to stop the assailant, but he eventually drove from the scene.

“We’d like to talk to the driver of the red truck,” Treviño said. Maybe that person has some information that could help police locate the attacker.

Anyone who might have information that could lead Beeville Police Department investigators to a suspect is urged to call 358-8100 or contact the Bee County Crime Stoppers organization. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information that could lead to an arrest in a criminal case.

Crime Stoppers may be contacted by calling 362-0206 or by calling toll-free to (877) 362-0206.

The organization may be reached by e-mail at bccs.crimestoppersweb.com. All witnesses remain anonymous.
