“We were able to execute our offense and hit key shots when they counted,” said head coach Katina Walker.
The Lady Trojans led 16-11 after the first period and added two more points to that margin by capturing the second quarter 10-8 over the Lady Bears. It was a 26-19 Beeville lead at the half.
The pace slowed in the second half as both teams applied a stingy defensive scheme that kept the scoring down. The Lady Bears cut into the Beeville lead by three, taking the third quarter, 9-6. That made it a 32-28 game entering the final period.
The Lady Trojans hit for another six points in the fourth but their defensive pressure was tough enough, holding West Oso to a mere four tallies.
The win gives the Lady Trojans a 2-3 record through their first five contests.
Chelsea Contreras led the Lady Trojan scoring with nine points. Shanise Wilson contributed with seven points and hauled in five rebounds. Courtney Perez scored eight points, including two long-range jumpers. Victoria Elizalde hit for four points in the win and led the team in rebounds with 12.
Randi Maupin also recorded four points and was in double figures in rebounds with 10. Tori Munoz and Lynnisa Puente both added two points.
“We still have work to do, but we are making great strides toward our goals,” Walker said.
The Lady Trojans played the state-ranked Ray Lady Texans on Tuesday night in Beeville before taking a break for the holidays.
