On Sunday evening, a group of animated and enthusiastic children sang and explained the true meaning of Christmas to the appreciative audience attending a dinner theater at Beeville’s First United Methodist Church.

“The Mystery of the Manger,” a children’s Christmas musical, was directed by Misty Morgan. She pointed out that the children had been working for the past four months in preparation for the performance.

She was assisted by Bobbi Morgan, along with Misty’s husband, Gary Morgan, working the sound and Dylan Pawlik as back stage help.

The cast featured Abby Huie as Jane Blonde, a cynical newspaper reporter who wanted to discover the facts about the birth of the Christ child to tell her readers. Sarah Draper portrayed Mrs. Evans, a teacher of a class of students readying for their Christmas play.

Other youngsters playing key roles and singing several spirited songs in the production were Gracie Sparks, Peyton Lamb, Melanie Thomas, Cierra Martin, Riley Huie, Caleb Thomas, Caleigh Martin and Samual Waters.

Before the play, the United Methodist Men served a tasty meal of chicken cordon bleu with side dishes, as well as a choice of several desserts.
