Ala Loretta Samford Hicks, entered into heavenly rest on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the age of 103.

Ala was born February 28, 1907, near Tahoka, Texas. She was the oldest of 13 children born to Archie Noel Samford and Lydia St. Clair Samford. Ala married Walter Lowell Hicks near Hico, Texas on January 6, 1926. They moved to the Three Rivers area in 1931. Together they raised five boys. Ala cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She took great joy tending her flowers, making quilts and crocheting. She gave each child and grandchild a quilt she had made when they married.

She was a member of the Church of God 7th Day, Three Rivers Garden Club, and Simmons Improvement Club.

Ala was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lowell Hicks in 1957, sons, Walter Dean Hicks and Lindon Hicks, grandson, Prentice Hicks and granddaughter, Sara Hicks Riggs, and her parents, three sisters and seven brothers.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jean Hicks, Kingsville; Vernon and Juanita Hicks, Belton; Curtis and Della Hicks, Three Rivers; Louis and Carrie Hicks, Whitney; and Phyllis Hicks, Sherman. Grandchildren, Bob Hicks, Jim Hicks, Debbie Hicks Hall, Dorothy Hicks Stephens, Duane Hicks, Lynnese Hicks Graves, Rhonda Hicks Heddins, Randall Hicks, Koby Hicks Catellier. Twenty three great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Sisters Ruby (James) Payne of Three Rivers and Margaret (Nathan) Crisp of New Braunfels also survive her.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers with Pastor Wayne Hrenyk officiating. Burial will follow at the Three Rivers Cemetery, Three Rivers, Texas.
