Athletic Director Troy Moses presided over the event, expressing great appreciation to the BISD school board, the administration at A.C. Jones, the cheerleaders, band, transportation department, announcer Martin Montez, Athletic Department secretary Terry Gonzales, the spouses of the coaches and a special thanks to the parents of all the athletes.
Cross country coach Stella Resio was first to address the assembly and present the awards for her sport. In cross country, the Heart Award went to Erika Martin. The Most Improved Runners were Kennedy Trevino and Mauricio Solis. The Most Valuable Runners were Jennifer Rodriguez and Ruben Garza.
Head football coach Troy Moses presented the football awards to the varsity. The Newcomer of the Year went to Eric Rosales. The Scout Team Player of the Year was Brent Puga. There were Co-MVP’s on the offensive side of the ball with running back Frankie Gutierrez and Brooks Holder earning the accolade.
The Defensive MVP award went to linebacker Armando Gonzales. The Special Teams Player of the Year award went to Henry Galindo. The Captain’s Trophy for leadership was awarded to Nick Waters.
The football Academic Award went to Graham Traylor. Armando Gonzales also was awarded the Trojan Heart Award. The team’s Most Valuable Player overall was Zach Castro.
All of the football awards were selected by the team members.
In team tennis, coach John Kidd presented the Trojan Hustle Award to Emily Barris and Scott Townsend. Kidd presented an award to one Trojan and one Lady Trojan in all categories.
The Most Spirited plaque went to Jesse Barrera and Hannah Stasny. The Most Improved were Ora Bruns and Roberto Reyna. The Newcomer awards went to Bill Rivas and Emily Barris.
The Most Valuable Players for team tennis were Eric Dehnert and Hannah Stasny.
The volleyball awards were presented by head coach Stella Resio, who took over the team in midseason. The Heart of a Champion honor went to Cori Moore. Setter of the Year was Victoria Elizalde. The Defensive Player of the Year was Chelsea Contreras and the Spiker of the Year was Brennan Holder. The volleyball Most Valuable Player was J.J. Hernandez.
