“It was a good game. We are learning as a team what our strengths and weaknesses are,” said head coach Amber Orchard.
“I look forward to this weekend’s tournament in New Braunfels. Hopefully, we can really step up our game by then.”
The game was originally scheduled for Beeville but the tournament over the weekend in the sloppy weather conditions kept the stadium field too chopped up and muddy to play the game here.
The two teams went head-to-head during the first half with the defenses both shining. Neither team got a kick past the respective keepers to end the first half in a scoreless tie.
The Lady Trojans broke through in the second half as Heather McKinney scored the lone goal of the game. The Beeville defense, led by sweeper Taylor Lawson, kept the Titans at bay most of the night. When the Victoria girls did get a shot-on-goal, Lady Trojan keeper Morgan McKinney made the save.
“Morgan McKinney really saved us a several times as the keeper and Anisa Cantu did well in midfield. She is a very assertive player,” Orchard said.
The Lady Trojans have three matches in three days at a tournament in New Braunfels. On Thursday, the Beeville girls took on San Antonio Clark at 7 p.m. Friday’s match was to be against the San Antonio MacArthur Lady Brahmas at 5 p.m. The Saturday contest will be against host New Braunfels at 1 p.m.
