WJHS Lady Eaglets capture third third at A-TJHS Redfish Classic

The eighth grade Lady Eaglets captured third place Saturday in the Austwell-Tivoli Redfish Junior High Classic.

In the first game, the Lady Eaglets came up short 23-21 against the Victoria Cobra Athletics.

“Woodsboro played hard for all four quarters, but came up shor,” said Coach Jaime Cano.

The Lady Eaglets came out pressing in the second game against the Corpus Christi Annapolis Academy and never looked back, with a 36-6 win.

Scoring for the Lady Eaglets during the tournament are Hannah Niemann 13 points, Azalea Garcia, 9; Michelle Martinez, 6; Kendall Wendland, 4; Katie Steele, 2; Brittany Stewart, 10; Caitlin LePore, 2; Amber Gray, 4; and Vanessa Vasquez, 7.

Contributing to the team victory with good defense are Christina Foster, Josie Gonzales, Alex Garcia, Bethany Fricks, Layla Brown and Anna Vega.

The Lady Eaglets have finished the first round of district play with two wins and two losses briging their season record to 4 and 5.

The seventh grade Lady Eaglets’ record is 1 and 4.

“The Lady Eaglets have been learning fundamentals playing hard and competing,” Cano said.

Playing for the Lady Eaglets are Shelby Sheffield, Mabrey Heartig Hailey Berkey, Amber Wiginton, Jaslyn Abila, Adriana Briseno and Regan Mitchell.

The WJH teams will be in action today (Thursday, Jan. 20), at home against the Port Aransas Lady Marlins.

“Please come out and support your future Lady Eagles,” Cano said.
