The concert is funded by a grant from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation’s Janet Harte Memorial Endowment Fund.
Since last fall, Blackburn has been the organist and choirmaster at St. Philip’s and an adjunct professor of music at Coastal Bend College.
This concert was scheduled to be given by Su-Ryeon Ji, doctoral organ student at the University of Southern California, but her organ performances are presently on hold while she recuperates from complications of carpal tunnel syndrome. The BCA board has invited her to reschedule her concert for the 2011-2012 season.
Ji came to Beeville from Korea to study at A.C. Jones High in 1992 and took organ lessons from local music teacher Patricia Powers.
Blackburn has a bachelor’s degree in church music with organ emphasis and a master’s degree in church music, both from Baylor University.
He is currently preparing a series of concerts for the dedication of the new organ at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in South Ogden, Utah, and kindly agreed to perform for the BCA on Feb. 4.
The concert is free to all students through high school age and to all CBC students with their photo ID’s. Adults who do not hold BCA season tickets will pay $10 at the door.
