Beeville Ford dealer Dave Moore has become a driving force in creating awareness about our city’s less than attractive surroundings.

For his efforts in making others aware of the need to do something about the eyesores around town, the owner of Dave Moore Ford became the first recipient of the Cleaning Up Beeville-One Block At A Time Award.

It is a well-deserved honor for this civic-minded business leader. Moore also should be commended for his being invested in the community and deeply involved in diversifying its economy. He provided a voice of reason in the recent BEIC-BDA negotiations.

Michelle Wright, Beeville Main Street manager, cited Moore and his team of cleanup artists for “doing a fantastic job of getting businesses, residents and even our young people to take a close look at how we care for the city we live in.”

Moore related that his greatest experience in the cleanup effort came when he enlisted the help of BISD Athletic Director Troy Moses and his Trojan football players in policing the high school campus, and later the area along Trojan Drive south of Wal-Mart.

For that and encouraging others to attack the trash problem in other parts of town, we join Main Street officials in saluting Moore.

As he and Wright noted, it sometimes takes looking at an overwhelming problem through the eyes of a visitor or newcomer to the city.

People driving through Beeville see things that the rest of us do not or tend to ignore. “First impressions are made in the first seven seconds,” Wright noted.

We encourage other businessmen and women, civic and youth groups and concerned citizens to join the effort to police your property and do your part to help pick up and clean up. Look for the city’s annual Spring Clean effort in April.

Thanks to Moore, perhaps efforts to improve our community’s appearance and pride will accelerate like a sporty red Mustang on the open highway.
