Maria G. “Mary” Hernandez, 88, of Beeville, died on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011.

Mrs. Hernandez was born in Falfurrias on March 25, 1922, to Valentine Garza and Margarita Villarreal. She was a member of the Guadalupanas and Cursillistas of St. James Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Hernandez Sr.; a son, Joe Edward Hernandez; and a grandson, Jacob Garza.

Survivors include a daughter, Imelda (Alex) Rodriguez of Beeville; two sisters, Inez Barrera of Beeville and Ida De Ases of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren, Troy Hernandez, Jason Hernandez, Marissa Magnone, Leticia Johns, Alexis Rodriguez, Nicholas Rodriguez and Sandy Wasik; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Esther Duran of Rosenberg.

Visitation was held Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary recited at 7 o’clock.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Eddie Garcia and Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.

Pallbearers were Troy Hernandez, Hector Perez, Jason Hernandez, Mr. and Mrs. Adam D. Treviño and Nicholas Rodriguez.
