RJH tennis team earns championship

The Refugio Junior High tennis team kicked off their season this weekend with a doubles and a singles championship.

Taking home the seventh grade doubles championships were Aimee Aranda and Gina Allen, who won all four games. The singles champion was Destinee Williams, who won all three of her games.

Allie Coscetti, eighth grader in singles play, won two games and lost one, making it to the semifinal round; Oscar Nanez, singles, also won two and lost one, making it to the semifinals; JT Moya, singles, won one and lost one, making it to the quarterfinals.

Dakota Newman, seventh grader in singles play, won two games and lost one. Dakota made the semifinal round; Kenny Moore, singles, won one and lost one and made the quarterfinals.

“We had several outstanding close matches along with several athletes making the bracket rounds,” said coach Selina Hemphill.

“Congratulations goes to all the athletes for a job well done this weekend.”

The Bobcat tennis team continued their practice sessions with a dual match against Austwell-Tivoli Monday afternoon.  Athletes competed in singles, doubles and mixed double matches. 

The Bobcat tennis team defeated Tivoli 15-8.
