Two scholarships will be given out this year by Tony and Marie Quintero in memory of their daughter Keisha Quintero. Although they did not reach their goal for the scholarships this year, the Quinteros still wish to help two students to reach their goals.

The scholarships are open to high school seniors wanting to continue their education. Applications can be picked up at the Barnhart Office at A.C. Jones High School. The deadline for applications is April 18.

Keisha graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 2003, and continued her education in 2008 with Texas State University. She was in a car accident in June 2008, which caused her death. She received a recognition of her educational achievements on Feb. 6, 2009, from Coastal Bend College TRIO Programs, her parents receiving the recognition in her honor.

Keisha always set high goals for herself and always strived to achieve them. She enjoyed helping people and loved life in general. Texas State Alumni, which she served as vice president, said about her, “Keisha was a vibrant and unforgettable person who brought a light with her wherever she went.”

Anyone wishing to contribute tax-deductible donations to Keisha’s Memorial Scholarship can do so with IBC Bank, the BISD, or by calling 354-0872.
