The young Lady Trojans opened with the Carroll Tigers. The Lady Trojans got great pitching from Adrianna Baltazar, who just missed a no-hitter as the next to last hitter beat out a bunt hit and was safe on a close call at first for the only hit of the game for the 5A Carroll girls. Baltazar got the final out and it was a 5-0 one-hitter.
“It by far was the best game the girls have played all year as a team. The team was clicking and executed all the little things that matter,” said JV coach Jason Hinds.
The Ray Lady Texans were the second-round foe and the Beeville girls prevailed, 5-4. The Beeville girls jumped out to a 4-1 lead after just one inning and held on for the win. Jasmin Soliz started for the Lady Trojans with Baltazar coming in to relieve her in the final frame. The Lady Texans had tied the game at 4-4 but the Beeville girls loaded the bases with Celeste Contreras at the plate. The Lady Trojan center fielder stroked a single up the middle to score Alli Antu with the winning run.
The final bracket games had the Lady Trojans facing the Alice Coyotes at noon on Saturday. Beeville errors helped the Coyotes on the fourth inning as the Alice girls batted around and scored 11 unanswered runs for the win.
The Lady Trojans met the G-P Ladycats in the tourney’s third place contest later that day. Baltazar shut out the G-P squad through three innings as the teams were knotted at 0-0. In the fourth, the Lady Trojans finally got on the scoreboard with Alyssa Bates knocking in the run on a single and she later scored on a fielder’s choice to make it a 2-0 game.
The Beeville bats weren’t done as the Lady Trojans came out swinging in the fifth. Hits by Tif’ni Puebla, Antu, Baltazar and Soliz garnered the Lady Trojans four more runs to make the final a 6-0 victory, giving the Beeville girls the third place trophy.
“I am very proud of the girls. It was a good tournament,” Hinds said.
