Katharine Louise Ybarra, 78, of Phoenix Arizona, left our presence here to be cradled in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December, the fifth, the year of our Lord two thousand and nine, at six eighteen in the evening. She was born to Farris and Pauline Cowan on August 26, 1931, in Latham, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, Farris and Pauline Cowan, by her daughter Debra Young, and grandsons James Daugherty, Nicholas Hons, and Harold Mahoney. She is survived by her brother Jimmy Cowan of Illinois and sister Paula Taylor also of Illinois; daughters Donna Jackson of Victoria, TX and Dennise (Allen) Hons of Hobson, TX; sons Douglas Pharis of Phoenix, Arizona and Darin (Loretta) Pharis of Yorktown, TX; grandchildren Raymond Mahoney of Arizona, Jayme Hall of Georgia, Wendy (Brian) Kulik of Yorktown, Craig Jackson of New Braunfels, Melissa (Jose) Ramirez of Karnes City, Matthew Hons of Hobson, Brandon Pharis and Dustin Pharis of Austin, and 16 great-grandchildren.
As a young teenager, Katharine had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She moved to Peoria, Arizona 48 years ago, where she lived up until five weeks before her death. She was a retired home health care professional and previously did foster care. She loved being able to do for others. She loved making fudge and cookies for her neighbors during the holidays. She spent most of her free time working in her yard, tending to all of her flowers, which was just one of her many passions. Katharine also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as reading. She was a sweet lady, that gave from her heart always, and will be missed by many.
