Loretta Hammack, longtime resident of Kenedy, passed away at age 97. She went to be with the Lord on Aug. 24, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter von Rosenberg of Runge; her sisters, Bobbye Jo Culver of San Antonio, Lorraine Urrutia of San Antonio; her late husband, Pryor Hammack of Kenedy; and her grandson, Shane Lee Browning of Edna.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Wharton and her husband George of Dallas, Jane Browning and her husband C.L. of Edna; and her son, Lee Hammack of Kenedy. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Hope Sebek of Katy, Richard Wharton and his wife Amy of Dallas, Kevin Hammack and his wife Grace of Victoria, Brian Wharton and his wife Mary of Dallas, and Chris Hammack and his wife Ettie of Fort Worth. She is survived by her five great-grandchildren, Kirsten Buzzell, Pierce Hammack, Grace Kenedy Hammack, James Wharton, and Kristen Wharton.

Loretta was active in Eastern Star for 50 years. She was the oldest living member of The First Baptist Church of Kenedy before her death. She was involved with Pink Ladies and her local bridge club for many years. She had many good friends and enjoyed all of them.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the Eckols Chapel with interment at the Kenedy Cemetery, the Rev. John Wheat officiating. Serving as pallbearers were John Berry, Ed Monson, Chris Hammack, Kevin Hammack, Richard Wharton and Brian Wharton.

Memorials may be sent to South Texas Children’s Home in Beeville, The First Baptist Church in Kenedy, or the Kenedy Cemetery Association in Kenedy.
