The Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) announced that a total of $1.5 million has been awarded to Atascosa County, Falls City, George West, Jourdanton, Lytle and Pleasanton for infrastructure improvements.

The grant will directly improve thousands of individuals’ access to water services.

One of the functions of TDRA is to act as a grants clearinghouse for rural community, faith-based and nonprofit organizations. The goal of these grants is to develop rural communities by expanding economic opportunity, and improving living environments for low and moderate income families.

“The department is an invaluable asset to rural Texas,” Local State Representative Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles said. “The importance of having a state agency that is focused squarely on the needs of rural Texas cannot be overstated. It has been my pleasure to work with TDRA to serve the needs of my constituents, and all of rural Texas.”

As Chair of the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee, TDRA is one of the state agencies that Representative Gonzalez Toureilles oversees. It is and will continue to be her priority to promote TDRA as a key independent state agency in the efforts of supporting District 35, and the rest of rural Texas.

Organizations interested in contacting the department about the grant application process may call toll free at 800-544-2042 or visit, www.tdra.state.tx.us, for more information.

As always, Representative Gonzalez Toureilles encourages her constituency to contact her and her staff by calling toll free at 1-800-240-2294.
