Karnes City will have one of the most modern water systems in Texas, if not the United States of America, if City Manager Larry Pippen has his way.

Pippen started a process back in 2006 that is beginning to show as work on the Karnes City water tower moves closer to completion and 41,000 meters of water lines have already been replaced in the city.

Top water quality is the final goal of the program, which has been embarked upon in phases and could be basically complete by 2012, at which time Pippen plans to take on an overhaul of city streets that is as comprehensive as the work done beneath them.

By the time all work is done, 90 to 95 percent of the water lines in the city will be replaced, and Pippen hopes to complete work on a similarly high percent of Karnes City roads as well.

“This to me is going to be the most up to date and the most current water system in Texas if not the United States,” Pippen said.
