Manuel B. Mendoza, 73, of Helena, passed away Sunday, October 31, in San Antonio. He was born to Gilberto Mendoza and Tomasa Barrientez Mendoza on Aug. 14, 1937, in Karnes County. He married Juanita Trevino on Jan. 28, 1956.

Manuel was a member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church, St. Helena Catholic Church, the Guadalupanas Society, and the Helena Men’s Club. He was the owner and operator of Double M Fence Building and was a rancher.

He is survived by his mother, Tomasa Barrientez Mendoza of Helena, his wife, Juanita Trevino Mendoza of Helena; his sons, Tony and wife Wendy Mendoza of Helena, and Martin and wife Susie Mendoza of Pflugerville; his grandchildren, Reynaldo Sanchez Jr. of Austin and Roland Sanchez of Helena; his brothers, Catarino Mendoza of Helena, Domingo Mendoza of La Mesa, and Pas Mendoza of Helena; and his sister, Ramona Noone of Helena. Manuel is also survived by eight other grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilberto Mendoza; his son, Gilbert Mendoza; his daughter, Mary Sanchez; his son-in-law Reynaldo Sanchez Sr.; his brother Matias “Matt” Mendoza; and his sister Felicita Torres.

A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 3, at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 4, at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City. Interment followed the Mass in the Helena Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Danny Mendoza, Marcos Cardona, Reynaldo Sanchez Jr., Roland Sanchez, Martino Mendoza, and Esquiel Marroquin.
