The basketball season has finally ended but the postseason awards honoring Bee County student/athletes are still rolling in to acknowledge the play of two area players.

Skidmore-Tynan’s Celina Acosta was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 2A All-Region team. It is Acosta’s second straight year making the elite squad for her play under head coach Joseph Grimes III.

Acosta, a senior, was known for her tenacious defense and rebounding but she could and did score when the Lady Cats needed a boost.

She was the ultimate team player for coach Grimes, sharing the ball with her teammates and doing what was needed to help the Lady Cats win district and go a couple of rounds deep in the playoffs.

Pettus Eagle junior Ryan Beck was selected to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 1A All-Region squad for his play this year.

Beck averaged a “double-double” for the season. He hit for 16.3 ppg and pulled down an average of 14.1 rebounds per game for the Eagles under head coach Steve Marbach.

Beck was also named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year for District 31-A. Beck joined just one other 31-A player, Port Aransas’ Tyler Pate, on the All-Region elite squad.
