Chapa receives $16,000 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo scholarship

George West High School senior Salina Chapa was the recipient of a $16,000 Area Go Texan Scholarship at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan Banquet on Friday evening (March 25).

George West High School senior Salina Chapa, daughter of Endercio and Margie Chapa, was the recipient of a $16,000 Area Go Texan Scholarship.

The Live Oak County Area Go-Texan scholarship committee, in conjunction with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, awarded the $16,000 scholarship and 27 scholarships of $1,000 during the annual appreciation dinner at the Live Oak County Fairgrounds on Friday evening.

Rip Wallace, Life-time Area Go-Texan Committee member, addressed the gathering made up of scholarship recipients, their parents, sponsors and supporters.

“Since 1957, $402,005 has been awarded to Live Oak County youth through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Live Oak County youth have been awarded twice as much as the other nine counties in our Go Texan District.

Locally, we have awarded $156,500 to our students over the last 14 years, and tonight we are going to add to those figures,” Wallace said.

Students from George West and Three Rivers earning the $1,000 scholarships listed alphabetically include: Bradley Bellows, Chelsey Browning, David Carvajal, Lauren Cordani, Emma Crawford, Kandace Escamilla, Chelsie Gloor, Tyrel Jimerson, Megan Johnson, Tanner Klepac, April Lemos, Larissa Liska, Michelle Luna, Taylor McCumber, Cody Oxford, Juan Paiz, Jeremy Pape, Arati Patel, James Perez, Colton Ruschhaupt, Adrianna Sulaica, Samantha Tadlock, Bradlee Umphres, Katie Valverde, Lindsey Weber, Miranda Weed and Marlin Williams.

In addition to Wallace, other members of the committee were named. Wallace began with Committee ambassador Scot Deason. Others from the committee introduced that evening included Bobby Alaniz, Linda Sue Barnes, Loretta Brown, Endercio Chapa, Earlene Dyer, Wayne Dyer, Lee Roy Hoskins, Donna Wallace and 12 others.
