It was a close game most of the way as the visitors could not break away from the feisty Lady Cats. The Lady Cats were down by just one, 3-2, after three innings. The visitors put together their biggest inning of the game in the top of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
The Lady Vaqueros added two runs in the sixth and a single run in the seventh against the Lady Cats. S-T rallied for one run in the seventh and had a couple of chances for more but could not get the timely hit.
“We hit the ball well against a very good San Diego pitcher. We stranded too many runners on base,” said head coach Gary Epps.
The Lady Cats pounded out eight hits on the night while the San Diego squad hit safely 10 times.
“They hit the ball well against us and we played well defensively, limiting them to bases earned. We just ran into a very solid well-coached team,” Epps said.
Gabby Garibay led the S-T offense with three hits in four trips with a big double thrown in the mix.
The Lady Cats played in Freer on Tuesday night and will host the Bishop Lady Badgers on Friday evening.
