On Friday night, the Gregory-Portland Wildcats used one big inning to put away the visiting Trojan varsity baseball team, capturing a 11-1 five-inning win over the Beeville boys.

“Friday against G-P wasn’t one of our better moments. We just arrived very flat,” said head coach Tom Carrera.

“Maybe the emotional lost to Port Lavaca and Floresville has been a big let down, but whatever the case we didn’t show up with much of a fight.”

The Wildcats opened with a single run in the bottom of the first. The Trojans managed their lone run of the game in the top of the third thanks to a Colt Burchett home run.

The Trojan blast over the fence tied the game at 1-1 entering the home half of the third. However, the Wildcats batted around in the third, scoring a total of nine runs to take solid command of the game.

The teams settled back down in the fourth with both getting the third out before any more damage occurred.

Beeville was unable to mount a rally against Wildcat starter and winning pitcher Ervin Polasek, who recorded nine strikeouts in his five innings of work.

The Wildcats got their final run in the bottom of the fifth and it was a 10-run rule win.

Beeville managed only two hits on the night. Michael Rosas took the loss on the mound, striking out three Wildcats.

The Trojans traveled to Victoria on Tuesday night to meet the West Warriors. On Friday night, the Beeville boys will be back in Victoria to face the East Titans. Both games have a 7 p.m. starting time
