With members and their families rejoicing together, Easter Sunday was celebrated at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge. The processional hymn announced, “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”. Pastor Ron Walter shared the good news of Easter morning.-People of God, Christ is alive! The tomb is empty! We are given the free gift of eternal life through the saving action of Jesus Christ. We are rescued from the power of death through the love of God’s only Son. We are forgiven through the death, and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, We are loved; we are forgiven; and we are free! Thanks be to God! Amen!
The service continued with the hymn of praise “Thine Is the Glory”. The first scripture reading was Acts10:34-43 followed by Psalm 118 and the second reading Colossians 3:1-4. Pastor Ron based his sermon on the gospel from Matthew 28:1-10 in which Matthew introduces the resurrection with an earthquake. When women come to the tomb, an angel descends from heaven and rolls back the stone…and sits on it! God acts, the cosmos shifts, and the power of death is mocked. The angel will announce good news; more astonishingly, Jesus himself will appear. He is alive, and that’s more than anyone could have imagined. Death no longer can contain him. Love and mercy are victorious. The resurrection is wild, outlandish, unexpected. To have it sink in we need to hear of it many times over, and from a variety of voices. The congregation rejoiced in the song, “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice and Sing”.
An invitation was extended to the Lord’s Table and the sacrament of Holy Communion was offered to all who believe in the Resurrected Christ. The service ended with the sending hymn “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today; Alleluia”.
