Tomlin jumped 22 feet even to outdistance his closest competitor by almost four inches.
“Since Hunter has been in eighth-grade I knew he would be an exceptional jumper. All of our track athletes this year were the hardest working athletes that any coach could dream of,” said track coach Darcy Siddon.
“Hunter was not the exception, he is hard working and very driven to accomplish his goals.”
Eagle Casey Jones placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.44. Xavier Bethany from Burton won the event with a time of 50.51. The Pettus High 1,600-meter relay squad placed fourth in the finals with a good time of 3:36.46.
Lady Eagle Savannah Delbosque just missed a trip to state in the 3,200-meter event as she placed third overall at the Region IV meet with a time of 12:56.34.
In the long jump, Chloe Garza placed fifth with a leap of 15-8. Garza was also sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.15. In the tough 300-meter hurdles, Garza ran and jumped to a third place finish in 47.41, just .01 behind the second place finisher, Kelsee Woddard from Ganado.
Falls City captured the girls’ team crown and the boys’ team title went to Yorktown, both from the same district (31-A) as the Eagles.
