Huntsman to serve at FUMC-GW

Pastor Emet Huntsman of Los Fresnos will serve as the new pastor at First United Methodist Church in George West. His first service will be on Sunday, June 19. Worship is at 9:30 a.m., followed by fellowship and Sunday school for all ages, including two adult classes.

Huntsman hails from San Antonio. After he graduated from high school in 1965, he attended St. Mary’s University. He was drafted into the Army in 1972 and served until 1974. After his stint in the military, he went back to college (Texas State University) and earned a degree in journalism with minors in history and political science.

In 1974, Huntsman began his career in radio news and stayed in it 20 years, until he became a minister in 1994. He and his wife, Sue, have been married 36 years (June 21, 1975). She also became a minister and the two have served the past 17 years.

Huntsman’s first call was at FUMC in Somerset, TX (1995-1997). Next he served at Oak Meadow United Methodist Church in San Antonio until 2001. From 2001 through 2006, he served at FUMC-Telferner (Victoria County), then FUMC-Los Fresnos from 2006 until now.

His wife was at FUMC-Port Isabel and will serve as pastor at First United Methodist Church-Karnes City.
