The Runge school board voted to hire Ken Wallace as athletic director for the school district during their June 6 school board meeting.

Wallace is coming to Runge from Pecos ISD where he worked as a SPED Teacher and also as assistant head football coach.

Before working for Pecos ISD, Wallace held positions at Royal ISD, Sabine Pass ISD, Brackett ISD, Rocksprings ISD, Uvalde ISD, Hallettsville ISD, Nueces Canyon ISD and Mart ISD.

In addition to his experience as an athletic director, Wallace has experience as head coach of teams in eight different sports.

Wallace received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Sul Ross State University in Alpine and holds professional certification to teach English, physical education as well as special education.

According to an online article at, Wallace wants to remind Runge students of the past as a way to show they what can be possible for the future.

“One thing we’re going to do is talk about history,” Wallace said. “At one time a team here was No. 1 in the state and won 12 ball games. We’re going to make sure they understand it can be done. Kids with the same names have done it. We’re going to preach it all the way down through the junior high.”
