“Illusion has made their community proud by competing in track meets,” said Natasha Campbell, coach. “The athletes are working together to promote a drug free and positive environment for the youths of Refugio County.”
On June 17-18 a group of athletes competed in the AAU District Qualifiers Meet in Round Rock, including Peyton Oliver, Jaylann Brown, Brianna Rodriguez, Cassidy Brown, Mia Brown, James Durst and Brittany Simpson.
Medalists include Jamel Lafond, third in long jump; Derrick Campbell, third, 80m hurdles, and Izac Canchola, first places in shot put, discus, and high jump.
At the next meet, held in Woodsboro on June 17, athletes who medaled include Christopher Rodriguez, second, 200 meter dash; and two thirds, 50m and 100m dash; Levender LaFond, third, shot put; Lauryn Morin, third, 200m dash, fourth, 50m dash, and fourth, 100 meter dash; and Devon Harris, fifth, shot put.
On June 24 the team made their way to Gregory-Portland for the first day of the South Texas Championships.
Jamel LaFond, earned firsts in long jump, 400m and 200m dash; Brianna Rodriguez, first places in long jump, 100m dash, and 200m dash; Ernest Campbell, first, 100m dash and third, 50m dash; Izac Canchola, firsts in shot put, discus, and high jump; Christopher Rodriguez, seconds in 50m and 100m dash; Cassidy Brown, fourth, discus, sixth, shot put; Derrick Campbell, fourth, long jump and 100m dash; Jaylann Brown, sixth, long jump; Peyton Oliver, sixth, 200m dash and two thirds, 100m and 400m dash; Lauryn Morin, sixth place, 50 meter dash; and Levander LaFond, third, shot put.
The South Texas Championships continued in Corpus Christi on June 25. Participants include Mia Brown and Brittany Simpson and James Durst, who brought home fifth places in discus, the 800 meter dash, and 400 meter hurdles.
